You could see the salt in the water.

23.02.2004 - 5:06 p.m.

Jordan's about the size of Indiana, so Point A to Point B takes all of forty-five minutes. Or thereabouts. On Friday Abu Nihad, my host father, took me and Grayson to the Mount Nebo and the Dead Sea.

Mount Nebo isn't so much of a mountain as it is a real big hill in an already hilly area. It's a beautiful view, especially to the west as the land runs away to meet the 400 meters below sea level that is the altitude of the Dead Sea. On a clear day you can supposedly see the West Bank and even the Dead Sea itself. It was cloudy when we were there. But to make up for it, Providence provided a large group of German tourists led by an Arab speaking German. Oh, and Japanese people. All of my favorite cultures and languages all thrown togather next to the grave of Moses. Blissful, it was.

After Nebo we hit the Dead Sea. Umm...I floated real well, even with ten pounds of rocks on my stomach. There were guard towers to make sure no West Bank defects crossed over. It was pretty odd.

Yeah, my group is leaving me now, so the grand long entry will have to wait till Wednesday. Hopefully.
